Sister Mary of the Cross

performed by Starrs Productions

THE PERFORMERS

Trisha Starrs has been writing and directing plays for school students for the last 20 years. The two actors performing this production are both drama graduates and have extensive experience in theatre and working with young people.

THE PERFORMANCE

Mary Mackillop fought throughout her life to create an independent order of Josephites, free from the control of Bishops and dedicated to serving the poor, an independent order sacred to their original vows.

The performance focuses on Mary Mackillop’s determination (political, practical and spiritual) to fulfil her dream. It is the story of the sacrifice and dedication of a great Australian pioneer.

The dramatisation utilises two actors and is one hour long, the script is adopted from various source books, and includes many of the thoughts and feelings of Mary Mackillop. It is an excellent resource and can also serve as an introduction to any exercise or discussion on pioneers, women in society and religious studies.
