THE PERFORMER

Each year Opera Australia presents a national tour of a fully-staged opera, specially designed to tour to metropolitan, regional and remote communities across Australia giving people young and old their first experience of opera.

Opera Australia’s Schools Company gives around 400 performances a year in metropolitan and regional schools in Victoria and NSW. Each year this enables between 60,000 to 80,000 primary aged students to experience the magic of opera in their very own halls.

The Schools Company programme has been touring for over twenty years and has provided first time access to opera to over one million students.

THE PERFORMANCE

Strap yourselves in and get ready to be transported to the floating city of Venice for a story that will remind you to shine bright and stand out from the crowd.

Angelina is a designer, costumier and seamstress of unparalleled skill. She longs to design bold, beautiful clothing but is stuck making ugly garments for her social-climbing step-father Don Magnifico and sister Tisbe.

Prince Ramiro has been charged to host a grand ball during the Venetian Carnival and wants to wear something wild and unusual to prove his uniqueness. He announces a city-wide competition, but is there anyone in Venice who can rise to the challenge?

Based on Rossini’s Cenerentola, this brand new production has been especially devised for Victorian school students of all ages. Complete with striking costumes and vibrant scenery, our professional opera singers perform live and in English.

A range of dynamic and interactive curriculum-based teacher resources are available online to help classroom teachers explore the music and broaden their student’s appreciation of the opera form.
