THE PERFORMER

Glen Thomas, is a proud Indigenous man from Townsville with strong roots to his Bidjara and Wakamin heritage. He has performed traditional dance since he was a young boy which over the years inspired his passion for sharing his culture through the performing arts.
During his training at NAISDA (he graduated in 2016) Glen also forged strong relationships with clans of Northeast Arnhem Land and the Western Torres Straits.
Glen has engaged with urban and remote communities and schools all around Australia and has performed overseas on many occasions. In 2017 he worked closely with The Songroom, a non-for-profit organization whose mission is to improve learning for disadvantaged students through the arts. Glen is very passionate about sharing his cultural knowledge and bringing awareness of indigenous issues through the arts and being a role model for future generations

THE PERFORMANCE

Glen shares both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture from the communities he has learned from throughout his life. He has tailored shows for all age groups that are educational, interactive and exciting.

Pre-Primary: Glen tailors is a delightful program for the littlies including stories dances and song. Forty minutes for the special price of $352 ($320 + $32gst).

K-6: Glen will perform a welcome song and give a brief introduction about his journey of learning culture. He will then give a Yidaki (didgeridoo) demonstration and workshop and share knowledge about other artefacts he has brought with him on the day. Glen will teach the students a dance from mainland Australia and another from Torres Strait Islands which will include them learning some language. He will include a Dreamtime story in his presentation which will conclude with a farewell song and dance.

7-12: While the structure of the session will be similar to the above, the content will be tailored to the year group/s. Glen is happy to include issue based content on request – i.e. Land Rights, the Stolen Generation, Stolen Wages, Indigenous Health.
