RAP, RHYME & ROCKING POETRY:

SPREADING THE WORD THROUGH RHYME AND RHYTHM!

Writing workshop/shows presented by Andy Jones

THE PERFORMER

Andy Jones is an ABC and Harper Collins best selling children’s author and entertainer. He tours schools, writers’ festivals, libraries and events all over Australia. The ‘Hot Jokes for Cool Kids’ series, that has sold over 500,000 copies (with 1.5 million copies sold across all his titles), has made him a firm favourite with kids and parents alike. Andy is a trained primary school teacher and has utilised this invaluable education to create his shows, CD’s and books.

THE PERFORMANCE

The program will encompass the creation , production and performance of either a short Narrative, Rap, Rhyme or Poem which is created using the whole group. The Narrative, Rap , Rhyme or Poem is brainstormed and written onto a white board and then edited and refined using musical backing. The students are involved in every aspect of the creation, production and performance of the Narrative. This Show/Workshop is proving to be very successful in schools due to its relevance and the use of electronic musical instruments to create and convey the finished work. The English Literacy writing curriculum is divided into 3 sections, Imaginative Writing - which incorporates Poetry -Rhyme & Narrative. The second component is Informative Writing and the third is Persuasive. Children are no longer restricted to a specific text type but can combine them as in real life. For example, Raps, Poetry & Narrative can be separate or all used as in Andy’s book - The Awesome Book of Rap Rhyme & Putrid Poetry, a combination of all three.

For a K-6 audience Andy will incorporate material appropriate for the K-2 students, which is literacy and curriculum based with a focus on participation, using drums and guitar and other fun props. Should there be enough students for separate K-2 and 3-6 sessions, the performance/workshop content will be tailored to be age appropriate.
