The Barber of Seville - VIC 2019

performed by Opera Australia

Each year Opera Australia presents a national tour of a fully-staged opera, specially designed to tour to metropolitan, regional and remote communities across Australia giving people young and old their first experience of opera.

Opera Australia’s Schools Company gives around 400 performances a year in metropolitan and regional schools in Victoria and NSW. Each year this enables between 60,000 to 80,000 primary aged students to experience the magic of opera in their very own halls.

The Schools Company programme has been touring for over twenty years and has provided first time access to opera to over one million students.

A serious case of love at first sight is a big problem for Count Almaviva. Enter the resourceful barber named Figaro, who cleverly solves everyone’s problems — for a price.

Secret letters, cunning disguises and all sorts of confusion will delight young audiences as the boy gets the girl and Figaro gets paid!

Rossini’s The Barber of Seville is one of the most popular operas ever written. This travelling production will enthral school students of all ages, complete with beautiful costumes and engaging scenery. Professional opera singers perform the famous arias in English, and a range of curriculum-based teacher resources are available to help classes explore the music.

The Barber of Seville is designed as a school incursion and available throughout Metropolitan Melbourne, Regional Victoria and South Australia.
